The Sierra Leone Football Association – SLFA’s acting General Secretary Mohamed Benson Bawoh and Director of Finance Ibrahim Bah attended a three-day CAF Member Associations’ Governance and Finance Workshop in Ethiopia.
Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, hosted the CAF Governance Workshop for CAF Member Associations aimed at championing governance and financial global best practices.
This aligns with the CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe’s drive to prioritise governance and uphold the highest ethical standards in Africa’s Member Associations.
The workshop, which was held between June 7 and 9, was spearheaded by CAF Member Associations and Legal Affairs Departments, and saw General Secretaries and Finance Directors, who all play a vital role in advancing CAF’s vision of making African football globally competitive and self-sustaining, being capacitated with the required knowledge and measures to assist in stabilising and improving governance and financial strength in their respective Associations.
The workshop marks the second edition of the gathering of General Secretaries and Finance Directors, following the first edition of the workshop held in Johannesburg, South Africa in November 2023.
Among other key topics that headlined the workshop, CAF delved deep into the subjects of Good Governance Principles, Recommended Statutes Updates, Tools to Implement Governance Best Practices, as well as a presentation of the Zonal Union Reforms which are key in having efficient Member Associations.
Concluding the successful three-day gathering, CAF’s Director of Member Associations, Sarah Mukuna, said such workshops are the bedrock of achieving CAF’s vision of making African football globally competitive and self-sustaining.
‘The image of African football has been vastly transformed over the last few years under the stewardship of CAF President, Dr Patrice Motsepe. We have witnessed an increased rise in global appetite for African football as a global product, thus translating into commercial strength for CAF, and ultimately African football,’ said Mukuna.
‘Equally so, it is vital for CAF and our Member Associations to be well positioned and leverage off this exciting growth of the African game by putting in place sound financial measures and governance structures that will further aid the development of African football. Such workshops are not only crucial for CAF, but for the African game in its totality,’ Mukuna concluded.
