By Barrie Alpha

Sierra Leone Gymnastics Federation will commence its first National Gymnastics and Cultural Festival this Saturday February 10th, 2024 at the Freetown City Hall.

According to Anna Williams, the President of the Sierra Leone Gymnastics Federation, the first ever Gymnastics and Cultural festival is popularising the sport and to demonstrate that gymnastics is a household name in Sierra Leone and to encourage parents to allow their children to learn gymnastics.

She noted that there were nine disciplines in gymnastics of which they are doing only few owing to lack of apparatus and a venue.

“I believe if we have the apparatus and gym, we are going to do those nine disciplines. We decided to hold the festival so that we can attract more people to come on board to support us,” she said.

She added: “We want to show the nation what we can do, despite doing what we can afford to do.  We will do the aerobic which have the mix pair, the trio and the single Men and Women Aerobic and maybe we will to the Rhythmic, Acrobatic, then we come to the Circus proper. The circus proper is such an entertainment and the gymnastics for all.”

As an executive, she went on, they decided that we need to demonstrate to the nation that we had different disciplines although we could not afford to do all but they would do what they could  afford.

“We are also organising this competition to ensure that the children engage in competition after series of training. We hope and pray that the first lady and other dignitaries will grace this maiden competition so that we will be motivated to organise as many competitions as possible in the year,” she said.

“Some of these event are similar to our culture like the gymnastics for all, they are going to showcase the culture they have plus gymnastics it might the kids, the youth and the old age,” the Gymnastic President concludes.
