There are loud cries from Koinadugu and Falaba Districts for the completion of the Kabala Krubola road, which was started by the erstwhile APC government. Travelling to and from the District, to attend to Council meetings, is almost impossible now, says the SLPP counselor in the area.
The SLPP counselor stated that he is currently under fire and constantly humiliated by his people who accuse him of having driven the APC from their District.
It will be recalled that the APC had told the people of Koinadugu that if they lose power the road project would not continue.
The Paramount Chief for the area, who also doubles as the Chairman Council of Paramount Chiefs for Falaba District, noted that the road contract, which is to link Kabala to Kruubola and Koidu town, has stopped and, since then, the road has been abandoned.
He noted that he had personally appealed to President Julius Maada Bio, during the launching of the School Feeding Programme sponsored by CRS, to fulfill the promised he made to complete the road. This, he added, had also been followed up with two visits to Freetown to engage the Minister of Works and other personalities in the Bio Government. But since then nothing has happened.
The people of Falaba, who hugely voted for the SLPP Government that secured both Parliamentary and counselor seats, are perturbed that the notion, which the APC held before the elections, that if they are booted from power, that the road will stall, has come to fruition.
Several youths who spoke to this medium have also noted that they would equally not agree or fall for any last minutes attempts by the SLPP to do the road as if the road is a political tool. We are calling on the Government to start the road now or never, the youths continued. The road should not be used as a political tool by Governments.
The Kabala-Krubola road is economically viable as it connects the rich agricultural districts of Koinadugu and Kono. The country has lost huge agricultural produce to the Republic of Guinea due to the bad road linking these districts.
Many had believed that the appointment of Peter Bayuku Conteh, a son of the soil, as the new Minister of Works, would easily solve the road problem confronting these rich agriculturally viable districts. The SLPP Government should listen to the loud cries of the people of Kruubola and Falaba and move swiftly to complete the road.
