This was disclosed to the nightwatch Newspaper by the Admin Officer attached of the traffic division Bo West Division, Inspector Philip Allen Cooper.
He said the money generated will complement Government’s efforts in the revenue mobilization drive in the country.
According to Inspector Philip Allen Cooper, the money comes from court fines imposed on traffic offenders with regards to various traffic cases charged to court by traffic Police Officers from March to December last year.
The Amin Officer revealed that in January 2018 about four hundred and nineteen traffic offences cases were charged to court and fines were levied against the defaulters.
Inspector Cooper also revealed that one hundred and twenty five traffic offences were charged to court in 2017.
He also maintained that the total number of the road accident cases in 2017 was greater than 2018.
In a bid to reduce accident cases in the city of Bo, according to Inspector Cooper, the Bo/West Traffic Division, under the supervision of ASP Tamba Fillie and the Bo/East Division, under the command of ASP Adama Saidu, have collaboratively come together on radio talk shows to the public about traffic signs and engaging in school sensitization for the school going children to observe road signs within the Bo city and its environs.
In addition, the NCO Crime Traffic Division Bo West Division, Inspector Michael G. Bunduka, maintained that accident cases have drastically reduced because of certain pro-active measures taken by the police. In fact, their action has also helped the district business centers free of traffic congestions.
Inspector Bunduka noted that the Bo West Traffic Division, since the beginning of 2019, has recorded low traffic offences. This is due to the massive sensitization and proper monitoring mechanism by the by traffic officers in Bo, in particular, and the region as a whole.
The Assistant DTO Bo East Division, Inspector Mansaray, aka Morba, informed the nightwatch Newspaper that his division is making inroads to maintain low traffic offences. He assured the public of proving maximum security on the roads. He said they will not relent in arresting traffic offenders and charging them to court.
The Regional Traffic Officer, South – Superintendent Sao Vandi- also confirmed the amount generated by his region, which, he said, is a step in the right direction, which is in line with the New Direction agenda. He revealed that there is a maximum cooperation between his office, the Motor Driver’s Union and the Bike Riders Union.
He said the police will work within the code and conduct of the Sierra Leone Constitution. ASP Sao Vandi admonished the traffic police officers to always maintain law and order and encouraged them to step up their efforts and work in the interest of the country.
