By Ragan M. Conteh

A 13 year old Senior Secondary School One (SSS1) arts student of the Royal Beckly Academy Senior Secondary School, Bryan R. Decker, has won a grand prize of NLe50,000 as part of Africell’s “Ramadan Di Hut Show” promotion.

Giving an overview of the Africell ‘Ramadan Di Hut Show’ promo at the company’s headquarters at Wilberforce in Freetown, Nancy L. Joseph (nee Turay) said thousands of Africell customers participated in the promotion, adding that many of them have won various appreciable prizes during the month of Ramadan.

She said the company has dished out prizes to winners including 10 Mip to winners, 5 won NLe50,000 amounting to NLe250,000, while 208 winners won cash prizes totalling NLe192,500 respectively.

Delivering a cheque of NLe50,000 to the lucky winner, Bryan R. Decker, and his family, Africell’s John Conteh said prizes including cash prizes have been delivered to lucky winners across the country.

John Conteh said customers are only required to send black SMS to 077777777 and have chances to win appreciable prizes from Africell “Ramadan Di Hut Show”.

He said many winners from Kenema, Bo, Makeni and Western Area among others have clinched prizes from the promo. Conteh said the company is resilient in terms of giving back to its valuable customers, adding that winner Bryan R. Decker was called upon during the promo period but did not believe it was true.

Bryan Decker said the money will be used for his education, as he hopes to become a lawyer in the future. John Conteh continued that, when the promo Chief Koblo Koblo called Bryan R. Decker’s number announcing him as the winner of the NLe50,000 prize, he gave a false name at first because he thought the call was from a fraudster.

He said the moment the phone reached Bryan Decker’s father the narrative changed completely and everyone accepted and believed that the said wining announced to him by Africell’s Chief Koblo Koblo was true.

Explaining during the handing over of the NLe50,000, Bryan R. Decker’s mother said the phone which her son used was bought by his grandmother. She said the credit Decker used was also bought by Mr Decker, his father, adding that when his son was called by Africell she was also doubtful it was a true promotion.

Mrs Decker said she told her son to give the phone over to his father to talk to the caller from Africell, the moment most of them believed that indeed it was from Africell.

The father, Mr Decker, also explained how he won a brand new freezer from same Africell promotion ten years ago, adding that when his son gave him the phone and saw the number 077777777 he was immediately convinced that it was true and responded positively.

Mr Decker on behalf of his family expressed thanks and appreciation to Africell for the boost, adding that the promo won by their 13 year old son is a blessing and appealed to all Sierra Leoneans to buy Africell Sim cards and be part of the train to success.

The entire Decker family were in a jubilatory mood at the handing over ceremony when the money was transferred through the Afri-Money number.

However, the NLe50,000 has been handed over to the Decker family.
