TALLE-RSL Celebrates International Literacy Day

TALLE Reading Sierra Leone has celebrated International Literacy Day in Port Loko City which celebration serves as a genuine reminder of the ongoing efforts required to improve the teaching and learning of literacy skills worldwide. This celebration was done on the theme “Mother Tongue Education to Sustain Effective Teaching-Learning of Foundational Literacy Skills in Sierra Leone”. The discussion during the celebration focused on highlighting the critical role local languages play in the teaching of literacy and numeracy skills to boost quality learning outcomes among girls and boys at the early grade levels of Basic Education.

The celebration began with a talk show on Radio Bankasoka which was centered on the significance of promoting the quality teaching of literacy skills to improve the poor alphabet, reading, and comprehension abilities of primary school children.

TALLE-RSL commitment is to improved literacy Instruction on teaching Education and school levels achievements.

The celebration noted a heartfelt tribute to the late TALLE-RSL’s Board Chairman, Abdul Karim Dumbuya, affectionately known as PRO or AKD. In his memory, the team distributed reading books to patients, pregnant women, in-service and pre-service nurses, and under-five children at the Port Loko Government Hospital.

This symbolizing the transformative power of literacy and the ongoing mission of TALLE-RSL to foster a Culture of reading to enhance the Academic well-being of Our Children-Our Future

The essence of celebrating the International Literacy Day makes it clear that the journey towards literacy is a communal effort that honors past contributions and looks forward to creating lasting educational change.
