Prosecution witness, Joseph Alpha, a teacher at Hammond Secondary School situated at Kissy New Road in Freetown, has testified in the ongoing matter involving three accused, namely Foday Kamara, Thomas Humper and Yusuf Dumbuya, who are standing trial for offences of robbery with aggravation, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, larceny and other related offences, which are all contrary to law.
The three men yesterday made their third appearance at Ross Road Magistrate Court No. 1, which is presided over by Magistrate Alhaji Suliaman Koroma.
The witness told the court that he knew the complainant, Inspector Fudia Sesay, as well as the accused as his neighbours and that he could recall 11th May 2020.
According to him, he was in bed sleeping, at around 1am, when heard the complainant, Fudia Sesay, screaming. He said he rushed outside to find out what was happening. He continued that, upon his arrival at the scene, the complainant explained exactly what had transpired between herself and the accused, adding that she identified them as well.
The witness further testified that he alerted the youth of Graton community and they went in search of the accused within the environs. He told the court that, as they proceeded to do the search, they saw the second accused, Alhaji Kamara, who was subsequently apprehended. According to the witness, the second accused helped them to arrest the first and third accused respectively.
The witness rounded up his evidence, noting that they later handed over the accused to a team of police officers from Kissy, who came to the scene and were conveyed to the said station for further investigations.
The men are arraigned before the court for the offences of robbery with aggravation, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, larceny and other connected charges.
The indictment indicates that Foday Kamara and two others, on the 11th May 2020 at Grafton in the Freetown Judicial District in the Western Rural District of the Republic of Sierra Leone, robbed Inspector Fudia Abibatu Sesay of certain valuable properties, all valued at nine million, two hundred and fifty thousand leones (Le 9,250,000), which properties belong to the complainant, Inspector Sesay.
The accused were refused bail and incarcerated at the Male Correctional Centre in Freetown, while the matter was adjourned to 1st June, 2020.
