The Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, Hon. Chernoh Maju Bah, has, during the just concluded debate on the declared State of emergency, heaped praises on President Julius Maada Bio for replying to his letter by suspending the activities of the National Civil Registration Authority (NCRA), until further notice.
The NCRA was established by an Act of Parliament to provide for the amendment and consolidation of the laws relating to the compulsory registration of citizens and non-citizens resident in Sierra Leone.
The Act provides for the issuance of identity cards, registration of births, adoptions, deaths, marriages, divorces and nullities throughout Sierra Leone, among other related functions.
According to Hon. Chernoh Bah, such a positive step by the presidency is what is expected from a good leader, adding that dialogue should be key in national development.
He said COVID-19 knows no boundaries or political parties, adding that registration of voters must be actualized but however expressed concerns over the fatal consequences during these trying times.
Hon Bah also cautioned security personnel to use a human face during the course of implementing the measures that have been put in place by President Bio, whom he considers as the father of the nation to fight COVID-19.
