National Petroleum Sierra Leone (NP-SL) Ltd has donated Le1Bn to the COVID-19 Fund to help government in the fight against the virus.
The donation which took place yesterday at the Emergency Operation Centre at Cockerill in Freetown was part of NPSL’s contribution to stem the Corona Virus spread in Sierra Leone.
In his address, Chairman of the Board of Directors of NP-SL, Mike Carroll said the virus was deadly noting that it was on record that the country had reported two cases.
He appealed to Sierra Leoneans especially business entities on the need for solidarity to fight the virus.
“We must collectively join hands in complementing government effort towards scaling up the fight against the virus,” he appealed.
“It is only by doing so that the common enemy will be defeated,’ Caroll hoped.
As a responsible company, he said, NPSL thought it fit to make the donation on behalf of the shareholders and Management of the company.
Caroll who presented Le1Bn to the Chief Minister, Professor David Francis, is of the strong belief that such effort could be helpful at this decisive moment.
He also called on the public to comply with the precautionary measures announced by government.
“We must adhere to all precautionary measures that government and its partners have put in place,” he appealed.
“It is only when strict adherence is maintained that we could stay safe,” he stressed.
On his part, the Chief Executive Officer of NP-SL, Kobi Walker, said the gesture by the company is a clear manifestation of NP-SL’s care and love for the nation.
Walker assured Sierra Leone of NSPL’s readiness to make sacrifices in contributing to the country’s socio-economic development. “We are determined to stand by the side of the people of this country during good and bad times,” he assured.
He reminded the public that the country was going through challenging times and admonished everyone to strictly practise measures put in place by government. Through the Ministry of Health and Sanitation and other stakeholders, he said, government has put together protective measures that show how we must treat with seriousness the directives from experts.
In another development, on the same day, Bankole Richard, who is a Board Member of Leone Oil Petroleum Company, made a donation of Le750M to the Corona Virus Fund as the company’s contribution to assist government in the fight against the deadly virus.
He was accompanied by the company’s Managing Director, Ibrahim D. Cole.
“No donation should be considered small as these contributions to the fund will go a long way in scaling up the fight,” he said.
Receiving the donations on behalf of government, Professor David Francis expressed profound thanks and appreciation to the shareholders, and management of the two companies adding that it is a step in the right direction.
Professor Francis appealed for more support for the government to fight the virus. “Fighting collectively, we will defeat the killer virus,” he assured.
It is indisputable that NPSL is a major contributor to the socio-economic development of this country.
In any country, there are certain non- State actors that, in diverse ways, complement government’s development trajectory.
In this country, the successful petroleum business entity has been commendably doing so.
