On Wednesday, 1st July, 2026, Private Lawyer, Emmanuel M. Kamara of the Gbanthkedie Chambers has in a glaring show of goodwill replaced three fused bulbs in Court No.8 presided by Magistrate Adama Jalloh.
Because these bulbs were fused, light in the court was dull making reading for lawyers kind of impossible. This state of dullness of the court’s lighting system had attracted the learned Lawyer and decided to save the situation.
In a rather unusual court procedure, Lawyer E. M. Kamara rose and sought permission from the presiding Magistrate rather to interpose and not to seek for an adjournment date, but to do a donation to the court. This rather unusual procedure caught the attention of Magistrate Jalloh and allowed the Lawyer to proceed. Lawyer E. M. Kamara submitted thus: “My Lady, considering the poor lighting system in your court room, I am hereby humbly donating these bulbs to your court to improve the lighting system.”
Lawyer S. M. Sesay of Sahid Sesay & Partners who was also in court sought to be join in the donation as an interested party, applauding his colleague for his timely and appropriate donation.
Magistrate Adama Jalloh expressed candid appreciation to Lawyer Kamara for the donation, lamenting that it would have been more impactful if the donation was done in the morning when the court is usually fill with lawyers. “How I wished this was done when this court is in its fullest capacity with lawyers, for them to see what their colleague is doing,” Magistrate Jalloh lamented.
This is not the first time Lawyer Emmanuel M. Kamara is doing such a donation. He had also once donated a ceiling fan to Court No. 6 to improve ventilation in the court room.
In Sierra Leone, it will be a good thing if Lawyers emulate such goodwill acts to improve the court system and its environment in which they operate.
