VERIFICATION EXERCISE ON GOVERNMENT QUARTERS HAS STARTED

By Francis Macauley

The Ministry of Works and Public Assets has started the verification exercise of all Government Quarters to investigate and properly identify rightful occupancy.

In an exclusive interview with the Deputy Minister of Works and Public Assets, Melrose Kargbo she assured the general public that, this exercise is not an exercise to remove or evict the current occupants from these quarters, but it will adequately help in updating the current data base in the ministry for all rightful occupancy within the quarters.

She stated that the verification committee set up is an independent body comprising of a twelve- man team with Civil Engineers, Civil Society Activists and Field Assistants who are assigned to work within six weeks in identifying the Government Quarters countrywide.

Mrs. Kargbo therefore encouraged the general public to assist the independent committee with useful information during their verification exercise as they are working within an intensive time frame.

She revealed that sensitization is ongoing with a public notice adding that she was in both radio F.M 98.1 and S.L.B.C television stations reassuring this nation that this is not any witch hunt for the Civil Servants who are currently occupying these quarters.

The team Leader of the verification committee, Retired Col. Allan Benjamin who also doubles as an Engineer mentioned that they had started the work with good support and cooperation from people they are meeting within the quarters.

He revealed that after this verification exercise the team will come out with a report and make some recommendations to the Ministry and advice on the way forward for government quarters and the pieces of land to these quarters.
