Members of the Sports Writers Association of Sierra Leone (SWASAL) on Friday, 17th May 2024, voted Bo Town as the venue for the Elective Congress, with a new date being chosen.

According to the SWASAL President Sahr Morris, because of the lack of funds and other unforeseen situations, his executive will not be able to hold the Elective Congress as stated in the constitution.

After serious deliberations, three dates were suggested. Fourteen out of the 17 members present voted for elections to be held on the 15th &16th of November, 2024.

Five out of 18 members present voted Bo as the venue for the Elective Congress.

Members agreed that the current executive lead SWASAL’s 50th anniversary celebrations and that a committee be set up to assist in the organisation of the celebrations.

President Morris informed members that he and Emmanuel Christian Thorli, the Financial Secretary, represented SWASAL in the just concluded 100th AIPS Congress in Spain, noting that the trip was self-funded because of the lack of funds in the association’s account.

He furthered that SWASAL will only benefitting from the AIPS by increasing the number of AIPS card holders, encouraging senior members to be actively involved in reporting sport as advised by AIPS and also encouraging the membership to be sending stories to be published on the AIPS website.

Members were informed that the committee set up to investigate complaints from both Hawa Dauda and Desmond Tunde Coker has completed their investigations and that reports will be published in due course.

Sorie Ibrahim Sesay moved that the meeting be adjourned.
