Woman Charged With Fraudulent Conversion

A businesswoman, Baindu Margai yesterday Tuesday 21st July, 2020 made her first appearance at Court No. 2 in Freetown with Magistrate Marke Ngegba presiding.

The accused is standing trial on one count of fraudulent conversion contrary to Section 20 of the Larceny Act, 1916.

The indictment indicated that the accused on Sunday 12th July, 2020 at Hill Station, Freetown fraudulently converted to her own use and benefit certain property to the sum of Le2 million and one Tecno mobile phone valued Le800, 000.00 (Eight Hundred Thousand Leones), all to the total value of Le2, 800,000.00 (Two Million Eight Hundred Thousand Leones) entrusted to her by Alieu Martin for the purpose of delivering to Neneh Martin Kamara.

When arraigned, the accused pleaded not guilty to the offence. She was not represented in court and no bail application was made.

The accused was remanded and the matter comes up on 30th July, 2020.
