Abiebatu Kamara is currently standing trial before Magistrate George Samai of the Ross Road Magistrate Court No. 2, for allegedly assaulting the complainant, Ramatu Jalloh, in a manner thereby causing her grievous bodily harm.
The police witness, Detective Police Constable 14978 Mohamed Osman Kamara, attached to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Calaba Town Police Division, said he recognized the accused and could recall 20th August, 2020. According to Mr. Kamara, on that fateful day, he was on duty at the Criminal Investigation Department, Calaba Town Police Division in Freetown, when a case of assault was reported to division.
He said the matter was assigned to him for further investigation.
“I issued a police medical request form to her for treatment at the Rokpa Government Hospital in Freetown,” he told the court. The witness added that, when the complainant returned the endorsed medical paper, he obtained statement from her, and it was produced and tendered in court marked exhibit A.
At his juncture, the presiding magistrate adjourned the matter to 16th October, 2020, on the basis that the prosecution had failed to put its house in order and bail of the accused remains in force.
