Woman Docked For Wounding

Fatmata Sesay is standing trial at the Ross Road Magistrate Court No.1, which is presided over by Magistrate Alhaji Suliaman Koroma, for the offences of wounding with intent, wounding and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, which are all contrary to the offences against the Persons Act of 1861.

The police prosecution witness, Alex Coker, in his testimony, told the court that he recognized the accused and could recall 9th May 2020. He said, on that fateful day, he was on duty at Allen Town Police Division as a Junior Police Officer (JPO), when the complainant, Isatu Bangura, rushed into the station.

“Blood was oozing from her wound,” he told the court.

The witness said the complainant reported a matter of wounding with intent and other related charges.

The witness continued that he issued the complainant with a police medical request form for treatment at the Rokupa Government Hospital Wellington in Freetown.

Mr. Coker said, himself together the Scene of Crime Officer (SOCO) and the complainant visited the alleged scene of crime at Allen Town in Freetown.

According to him, upon their arrival at the scene of crime, the Scene of Crime Officer took photographs and those photos were tendered in court to form part of the court`s records.

The witness added that he obtained statements from the complainant and her witnesses. The interview statements of the complainant and the accused were witnessed by Detective Sergeant 9484 Bangura Mohamed.

The voluntary caution statement of the accused was also tendered as exhibit.

On the 19th May 2020, the witness concluded his testimony and charged the accused with the offences of wounding with intent, wounding and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, which all contrary to the laws of Sierra Leone.

The indictment adduces that Fatmata Sesay, on 19th May 2020, at Allen Town in Freetown, wounded and assaulted the complainant, Isatu Bangura, in a manner thereby causing her grievous bodily harm.
