Woman Incarcerated For Wounding

Ballay Kamara is currently standing trial at the Ross Road Magistrate Court presided over by Magistrate George Samai, for wounding with intent, wounding and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
Police charge sheet states that Ballay Kamara, on the Sunday 26th May 2019, at Upper Moiba, Kissy in the Freetown judicial district, in the Western Area of the Republic of Sierra Leone, wounded Taliba Kamara with intent to do him grievous bodily harm.
Police Prosecution witness Taliba Kamara told the court that he recognized the accused, Ballay Kamara, and recalled 26th May, last year.
On that day, witness said, he and one of his friends were Kissy in Freetown to see a piece of land owned by his late father, Pa Kamara. According to the witness, he had the intention of planting crops on the said land.
The witness continued that, upon their arrival at the land, they were clearing when the accused, Ballay Kamara, arrived at the scene and stopped them. According to her, her elder sister has allocated the said land to her.
The witness further testified they went ahead clearing and planting on the land when the accused pushed him. Witness said he fell and sustained injuries on his back.
The witness rounded up his testimony by explaining that he was later taken to the Kissy Police Station where he was issued with a police medical form for treatment at the Rokupa Government Hospital, east of Freetown.
He later made statement at the Kissy Police Station.
Defense counsel, Madieu Sesay applied for bail on behalf of his client relying on section 79 (2) and (3) of the Criminal Procedure Act of 1965 and the bail regulations.
The accused was granted bail in the sum of Le50M with one surety in like sum.
Other bail conditions include one recent passport, with a title deed to be approved by the Deputy Master and Registrar.
The matter adjourned to 24th March.
