Police prosecution witness (PW) 1 and complainant, Fenty Kanu, in a wounding matter has testified before Magistrate Wilbri Hamida Moira John at the Ross Road Magistrate Court No.1 in the on-going matter involving suckling mother, Juliet Maseray Sesay.

Madam Sesay is facing the court for the offences of wounding with intent, wounding, abusive language and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, which are all contrary to the laws of Sierra Leone.

Testifying in court, PW1 Fenty Kanu, who resides at Cola Tree, Mount Zion in Freetown, told the court that he recognised the accused as his neighbour and could recall 23rd March, 2021.

According to him, he was at home that day at the above address in Freetown when he called one of his neighbours, Yusuf Conteh, adding that he purposely invited Mr Conteh for them to discuss a complaint his wife, whose name was not mentioned, had made to him concerning the accused.

He said Mr Conteh arrived around 6pm.

“As matter of fact, I then narrated to him exactly what my wife earlier told me in respect of the accused. But, however, he appreciated my frantic effort so far,” Mr Kanu added.

He furthered that as they were talking in his veranda, Mr Conteh mentioned the accused’s name, which annoyed her to the extent that she starting hurling abusive words at them, including calling him a bastard and illegitimate child.

“I told Mr Conteh to admonish her to stop abusing me, which he heeded. But she does not listen to him. Suddenly, we saw her younger brother, Amodu standing by her. In fact, myself and Mr Conteh went to him to advise his sister to stop abusing us,” PW1 stated.

The witness detailed the court that during that process, as he was turning round, he saw the accused coming from his back and subsequently wounded him on his forehead with a knife.

“I was bleeding profusely and reported the matter at the Calaba Town Police Station, where I was issued with a police medical request form for treatment at the Rokupa Government Hospital in Freetown,” he told the bench.

“I later returned the endorsed medical paper to the police and made a statement,” he said while concluding his evidence.

According to the police, Juliet Maseray Sesay, on 23rd March 2021, at Cola Tree, Mount Zion in Calaba Town, Freetown, wounded and assaulted the complainant in a manner thereby causing him grievous bodily harm.

The charge further stated that the accused, on the same date and at the same address in Freetown, insulted complainant Fenty Kanu in full view of the public.

Cross examination was conducted by defence counsel, A.B. Mousia for and on behalf of the accused. Bail of the accused remains in force, and the matter was adjourned to 21st July, 2021.
