2 Docked For Assault

Theresa Kamara and Mariatu Kamara are standing trial at the Ross Road Magistrate Court No. 1 presided over by Magistrate Alhaji Suliaman Koroma for the offence of assault.
Police Prosecution Witness Famata Tarawallie who also doubles as the victim told the court that she was nine months pregnant at the time of the incident.
She added that she recognized the accused persons and also recalled on the 29th January 2019, while at home when the first accused, Theresa Kamara, had accused her eight years child of treating her in a disrespectful manner.
The witness added that, the 1st accused became annoyed and started using all sorts of abusive languages on her.
The witness further stated that she had begged the first accused person on behalf of her eight years child to forgive her since according to her she is a child.
The first accused recounted that the child of the victim was still abusing her which prompted her to call one of their neighbors, Mamie Satta to witness the said incident.
The first accused continued her testimony by stating that the accused slapped her on her jaw and forcefully pushed her resulting to her falling down.She continued that she had received a merciless beating from the accused.
The witness stated that she reported the matter to the Kissy Police Station where she was issued with a police medical request for examination.
The witness rounded up her testimony by telling the court that while she was undergoing treatment at the Government Hospital in Freetown, a nurse told her that her baby in the womb has stopped breathing and that she later miscarried while still undergoing treatment at the hospital.
The police charge sheet indicates that, Theresa Kamara and Mariatu Kamara on the 29th January 2020, at Calaba Town in the Freetown Judicial District in the Western Area, of the Republic of Sierra Leone, assaulted Famata Tarawallie in a manner thereby causing her grievous bodily harm.
The accused persons were granted bail and the matter was adjourned to 26th February 2020.
