The Sports Writers Association of Sierra Leone (SWASAL) will hold its Annual General Meeting (AGM) from April 24–25, 2026, at the SLOIC Complex, bringing together sports journalists from across the country for critical discussions on the future of the profession.

This year’s AGM is themed “Strengthening Sports Journalism in the Digital Era: Innovation, Integrity and Impact,” reflecting the association’s commitment to adapting to the rapidly evolving media landscape.

According to SWASAL President Sahr Morris Jnr, the keynote speaker will be former Anti-Corruption Commission boss Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara, who will be attending the association’s AGM in Bo for the second time.

Morris noted that key items on the agenda will include a comprehensive review of the association’s constitution, presentation of financial statements, and reports from regional branches.

He added that major stakeholders have been invited to participate in the deliberations, including the National Olympic Committee of Sierra Leone, the Sierra Leone Football Association, and the parent body, the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists.

“We are expecting strong participation from our partners, and there is also the possibility of hosting the President of the Liberia Sports Journalists Association,” Morris said.

Meanwhile, SWASAL’s Organizing Secretary, Mohamed Abu Conteh, assured members that all necessary arrangements have been put in place to ensure a successful AGM.

He emphasized that discussions will also cover the official launch of the 2026 SWASAL Awards, alongside the financial and constitutional reviews.

He urged members from all regions to attend and actively participate, stressing the importance of collective input in revising the association’s outdated constitution.

Delegates from across Sierra Leone are expected to converge in Bo for what is anticipated to be a decisive gathering aimed at strengthening the association and enhancing the standards of sports journalism nationwide.

Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara (JFK) is one of the most prominent political figures in Sierra Leone. Kamara gained national renown when he was tapped by President Ernest Bai Koroma to carry out his key initiative of stamping out corruption, by heading the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). Under Kamara’s leadership, the ACC obtained autonomous authority to prosecute, and has led the charge in prosecuting government officials, including those of the President’s own cabinet, which led directly to an improvement in global perceptions of Sierra Leone’s stance on corruption.

Attorney-General and Minister of Justice

Although there were attorneys-general that served the Colony of Sierra Leone, the Office of the Attorney General and Ministry of Justice that still stands today was first established in 1961. It would not combine with the Ministry of Justice until 1978 when the country’s constitution was amended. The office is responsible for prosecuting all offenses in the name of the Republic of Sierra Leone. The Solicitor General and the Director of Public Prosecutions are two sub-units of the Office of Attorney General and Ministry of Justice.
