The hope plus department at the Don Bosco Fambul in Freetown on Friday 17th January 2020 at the Community Empowerment for Rural Development Training Centre (CEFORD) Vocational School at Charles Street conducted a one day work shop for 42 young girls taken there by the Don Bosco Fambul for skills training.
According to the head of the Hope Plus department at the Don Bosco Fambul Mr David Brima, the essence of the workshop is inform the beneficiaries about the benefit and importance of acquiring skills for the development of their lives and the possibility of those skills to make them self reliant.
Mr David Brima in addressing the young girls stated that, they should take their work seriously as it would have positive impact in their lives and it will make them not dependent on men for their survival.
Mr Brima furthered that Don Bosco Fambul in Freetown is committed in changing the lives of young vulnerable young people especially girls who are more susceptible to abuse and exploitation.
He concluded that the 42 young girls were not the first set that Don Bosco has supported with beneficial skills as they have done same to thousands of young boys and girls across the country and he admonished them to diligently use the acquired skills to better their lives.
One of the workshop facilitator, Madam Rebecca Sesay a seamstress, who mentored the girls on tailoring, stated that, tailoring is where she has educated all her children to university level and it is a very profitable skill if taken with utmost seriousness.
She averred that, the 42 girls should be very thankful and grateful to an organization like Don Bosco that is bent on improving the lives of young people in the country.
She concluded by thanking the management of Don Bosco for it contribution to the socio-economic and socio-cultural development of young people in Sierra Leone since it started operations in Sierra Leone
Another facilitator, Madam Radiatu Kargbo, a Caterer, also admonished the beneficiaries that, catering is one of the most lucrative enterprises that many young girls are looking low upon. She furthered that every human being need food to survive and catering is mainly a food focused enterprise which can take some everywhere in the world.She admonished them also to improving their reading and writing skills as that would be of utmost importance in the administration of their catering business.
One of the beneficiaries, Mary Koroma, thanked Don Bosco for equipping them with self reliant skills as they will self dependent. She promised the management of Don Bosco to make use of the skills acquired from CEFORD to making themselves useful citizens that will contribute to the economic development of Sierra Leone.
