CHRDI EXPRESSED CONCREN ON JUSTICE AND SECUIRTY

The Campaign for Human Rights and Development International (CHRDI) has expressed deep concern over the present fragile security, increase lawlessness and the interference of other stakeholders into the independence of the judiciary in the country.
The CHRDI boss has expressed such concerns over the rising spate of violence and intimidation of political opponent across the country.
His organization according to him is concerned about the occurrences of the past weeks which has witnessed a rise in the brazen disregard of the rule of law, barefaced threats and political intimidation.
He recently told this press that Politics in the country is still fragmented along regional and ethic lines, with increasing manifestation of political intolerance.
The civil society activist added that the Police and the judiciary are constrained and so also is corruption and youth unemployment remained key challenges to the protection of human rights in Sierra Leone.
These situations, Mr. Fatormah recounted are further compounded by breaches of the national constitution, other domestic and international law including the national democratic principles that are enshrined and protected in the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone.
He noted that they are therefore using all necessary platforms to remind the Government of Sierra Leone, all Political Parties, the PPRC, the Police Service, the Electorate, the International Community and other Stakeholders about the nation commitment to Peace and Tolerance as enshrined in varied articles and memoranda during and after the elections.
The views of the Civil Society Activist were also supported by the National Deputy Publicity Secretary of the main opposition All People Congress party, Sidi Yayah Tunis.
He told this press that since losing the 2018 elections, their party members and infrastructures have been severely attacked by some members and supporters of the ruling SLPP, leaving a good number of thier members with death and injuries, while millions of Leone worth of properties have been destroyed.
On their own part, the National Publicity Secretary of SLPP, Lahai Lawrence Leema said that the country is peaceful and safe. He stated that there are only minor incidences caused by other political parties. But assured the public that government is doing all they can to make sure that peace prevail everywhere.
