By Musa Paul Feika

One Abdul Karim has made his first appearance before Magistrate Alhaji Suliaman Koroma at Ross Road Magistrate Court No.1, for fraudulently converting twenty one million leones (Le 21,000,000) to his own use. This is money entrusted to him by Alhaji Sillah for the purpose of delivering same to Aruna Conteh.

When the charge was read to the accused, he pleaded guilty. The accused is arraigned before the court for fraudulent conversion. The police charge sheet states that Abdul Karim, sometime in 2019, at Sani Abacha Street, in the Freetown Judiciary District in the Western Area of the Republic of Sierra Leone, fraudulently converted twenty one million leones (Le 21,000,000) to his own use. The money was entrusted to him by Alhaji Sillah for delivering same to Aruna Conteh.

The defense counsel, Madieu Sesay, told the court that his client is ready and willing to pay the said sum.  According to him, his client has already paid four million Leones (Le 4,000,000) to the police to settle the matter amicably.  He also made a request for his client to be paying three million leones every month, starting from July this year.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Isata Bangura, raised no objection to the request made by the defense counsel, whose application was granted.

The accused was granted thirty million leones bail with two sureties who must be resident within the Freetown jurisdiction. The bail conditions are to be approved by the Master and Registrar. The matter comes up 30th June, 2020.
