Following the reopening of schools on Wednesday 1st July 2020, vox pop conducted by this medium in the Kaffu Bullom Chiefdom, Port Loko District revealed that WASH facility in schools remained a very big problem.
Many of the concerned school authorities interviewed by this medium pointed out that most of the schools in the chiefdom have still not been disinfected owing to the untimely disbursement of school subsidies.
They further told the Nightwatch that they are yet to receive facemasks, dry ration, wash facility and thermometers for temperature testing that are essential to the health protocols and safe schooling during the pandemic.
The only safety measure that is visible in most of the schools, according to them, is physical and social distancing in term of sitting arrangements.
Meanwhile, the Sierra Leone Teachers Union (SLTU) Regional Secretary West, Foday Kuyateh has advised teachers to use team teaching approach and to concentrate on core subjects and past question papers since time is not in their favour for public examinations.
