IPAM Student jailed for wounding with intent

A magistrate court in Freetown, presided over by Magistrate Rugiatu Sesay, has remanded Memunatu Saccoh for wounding with intent and other related offences.

The accused, a student of Institute of Public Administration and Management (IPAM), was remanded after she failed to meet bail conditions of Le20M and one surety who must be gainfully employed. IPAM where the accused attends is one of the constituents of the University of Sierra Leone.

Yesterday marks her first appearance before Magistrate Sesay of Pa Demba Road Court in Freetown.

The accused is expected to spend one week behind bars save a production order to be issued when a surety appears for her within days.

The accused Memunatu Saccoh is charged with three counts of wounding with intent contrary to Section 18 of the offences against the person’s Act 1861, wounding contrary to Section 20 and assault occasioning actual bodily harm contrary to Section 47 of same.

The charge sheet indicates that the accused, Memunatu Saccoh on Monday 29th June 2020, at Mongagba village in Freetown wounded David Ndanema with intent to do him grevious bodily harm.

The accused, Madam Saccoh has no legal representation.

The matter comes up on 21st July.
