Police Constable Abdulai Tamba, attached at the Wellington Police Post in Freetown, yesterday testified in the ongoing matter concerning one Munda Swaray, who was charged with the offences of wounding with intent, wounding and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, which actions are all contrary to the Offences against the Persons Act of 1861.
Mr. Tamba told the court that he recognized the accused as well as the complainant. He said he could recall 21st April this year.
According to him, on that fateful day, he was on duty at the Wellington Police Post in Freetown, when the complainant, John Sheriff, with the help of others, arrested the accused and brought him into the police post in respect of wounding with intent and other related offences, adding that blood was oozing from the complainant`s wound.
The witness said he issued a police medical request form to the complainant for treatment at the Rokupa Government Hospital, Wellington in Freetown. The witness said he took photographs of the complainant, and these photos were tendered in court to form part of the court records.
On the 21st April 2020, the witness went on, he obtained statements from the complainant and his witnesses.
Mr. Tamba said, on 22nd April 2020, he obtained a voluntary caution statement from the accused, which was witnessed by Detective Police Constable 17290 William M.J.
The witness rounded up his testimony stating that, on 24th April 2020, he charged the accused with the offences of wounding with intent, wounding and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, which are all contrary to law.
The police charge sheet indicates that Munda Swaray, on the 21st April 2020, at Upper Caulker Street in Freetown, wounded and assaulted the complainant, Mohamed Sheriff, in a manner thereby causing him grievous bodily harm.
The accused was denied bail and remanded at the Male Correctional Centre, Pademba Road in Freetown. The matter was adjourned to 20th July 2020.
