Staff To Face High Court… Le900M Stolen At GT Bank

Kaifen Kallay, staff at Guaranty Trust Bank S/L Limited, employed as Clerk/Servant, on Monday 7th September 2020, appeared before Magistrate Hannah Bonnie of Court No.1 on Pademba Road in Freetown, for stealing nine hundred million Leones.

The accused, Kaifen Kallay, is charged with a count of larceny by servant, which is contrary to Section 17 (1) (a) of the Larceny Act of 1916.

According to the charge sheet, the accused, Kaifen Kallay, on Tuesday 30th April 2019, at the Guaranty Trust Bank S/L Limited at Wilberforce Street in Freetown, being a clerk or servant employed by Guaranty Trust Bank S/L Limited, stole nine hundred million Leones from the bank.

The accused is however on bail of five hundred million Leones and three sureties in like sum, and two of the sureties must have a property in the Western Area.

The Police Prosecutor, Ibrahim Sheik Mansaray, told the court that he has led four witnesses to testify in court, including staffs from the bank.

Magistrate Hannah stated that she will either commit the matter at the High Court for further trial or may finish it at the Magistrate Court.

The matter comes up on the 10th September 2020.
