Man Jailed For Robbery

Saidu Kanu is currently standing trial before Magistrate Alhaji Suliaman Koroma of the Ross Road Magistrate Court No.1, for allegedly breaking into the store of the complainant, Yusuf Mansaray, at Samura Town Wellington, in the east of Freetown, and robbed him certain mobile phones worth millions of Leones.

The police prosecution witness, Lahai Samura, who is also a mason, told the court that he recognized the accused as his business partner and neighbour, and could recall Saturday 20th September, 2020.

He added that, on that fateful night, at around 2am, he received a telephone call from one of his neighbours, whose name was not mentioned. He added that his neighbour gave him information about the alleged incident.

The witness said, upon receiving the information, he instantly left for the crime scene at Samura Town, Wellington in Freetown, noting that, upon arrival, he discovered a broken shop, and that certain items, which include Bluetooths, mobile phones and charges, have been carted away by the accused. He said he made a statement at the Wellington Police Post in respect of the matter, where a team of detective police officers, from the aforesaid post, visited the crime scene and took photographs.

The accused is arraigned before the court for the offences of robbery with aggravation, wounding, larceny and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, which are all contrary to the laws of Sierra Leone.

According to the police charge sheet, Saidu Kanu, on the above mentioned date and address, broke and entered into the shop of the complainant and robbed him of certain viable items worth millions of Leones.

The accused was denied bail and remanded at the Male Correctional Centre, Pademba Road in Freetown.

The matter was adjourned to 8th October, 2020.
