Yusuf Sankoh is standing trial at the Ross Road Magistrate Court No. 1 presided over by Magistrate Alhaji Suliaman Koroma for the offences of wounding with intent, wounding and assault occasioning actual bodily harm contrary to law.
The police charge sheet adduces that Yusuf Sankoh on Sunday 10th March, 2020, at Taylor Street, Wellington, in the Freetown Judicial District in the Western Area of the Republic of Sierra Leone, wounded and assaulted one Aminata Gbogay in a manner thereby causing her grievous bodily harm.
The police Prosecution Witness, Aminata Bongay who also doubles as the victim told the court that she recognized the accused and that she could recall on the Sunday 10th March 2020.
On that fateful day, the witness continued that herself together with her sister, Hawanatu Kamara went to Rogers` Waterside to do some laundering. According to her, after few seconds, the accused, Yusuf Sankoh arrived at the scene adding that upon his arrival, he asked her to shift so that he can to sit by her. According to her, she vehemently refused and the accused forcefully pushed her and slapped her.
She furthered that, quarrel ensued between them and that the accused became annoyed to the point that he took a bottle and stabbed her, leaving her in a poll of blood.
The witness rounded her testimony by stating that she reported the matter to the Wellington Police Post where she was issued with a police medical request form for examination and treatment at the Rokupa Government Hospital at Wellington Freetown.
Defense counsel, Randy Bangura representing the accused attempted to make bail application on behalf of his client but bail was refused and the accused was remanded.
The matter was adjourned to 30th March, 2020.
