A provisional ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has reinstated Aminata Bangura in the contest for the Presidency of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) in next Saturday’s elective congress.

The significant turn came following a ruling by the Court for the Arbitration of Sports (CAS) of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) chaired by the President of the CAS Appeals Arbitration Division, that cleared Bangura fit to contest and would have her name on the ballot alongside fellow candidates Babadi Kamara and Alhaji Umar Bah in the highly anticipated election scheduled for Saturday, August 2nd, 2025.

The development comes after Bangura filed an appeal to CAS on July 24, 2025, challenging her disqualification from the race. The CAS ruling reads in part:

“The request for stay of execution filed by Ms. Aminata Bangura on 24 July 2025 in the matter CAS 2025/A/11613 Aminata Bangura vs. Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) is granted… Ms Aminata Bangura is declared eligible to stand in the presidential election of the Sierra Leone Football Association, to be held on 2 August 2025.”

Meanwhile, the current SLFA President, Thomas Daddy Brima, who did not file an appeal following the electoral committee’s disqualification decision, is officially out of the race. This paves the way for a new leadership at the helm of Sierra Leone’s football governing body.

The CAS order also notes that the costs related to this interim decision will be addressed in the final award or any other final resolution of the arbitration.

With three contenders now vying for the top position, the election promises to be a defining moment for the future direction of football in Sierra Leone.
