Aminata Bangura, defeated candidate in the just concluded Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA)’s election has vowed to take the Electoral Committee to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) over the entire electioneering process.

The Chairman of Bo Rangers FC, Babadi Kamara, was elected as the new President of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) following an Elective Congress that was full of confusion held at the Gateway Hotel in Lungi on Saturday, August 4th, 2025.

The election, full of confusion regarding constitutional matter and one of the delegates, Benjamin Gordon, was brutally beaten and forcefully dragged out of the hall by the police security personnels, accusing him of obstructing the congress.

Kamara won by a wide margin, receiving 43 votes. His rivals, Aminata Bangura got 11 and Alhaji Umaru Bah despite withdrawing from race, got 1 vote.

The journey to this election was full of problems. There were disqualification of candidates on ethical issues, accusations of fake documents, political pressure, and fights over who could vote. The former president, Thomas Daddy Brima, was removed after failing integrity checks. Aminata Bangura was only allowed to run a few days before the vote, after a decision from the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Speaking to a cross section of the media after the elections, Aminata Bangura said the entire process was fraud and it’s not an elective congress, but a coronation, stressing that she will challenge the whole electioneering process at CAS.

“For over four hours we were engaged in a constitutional crisis and then they went ahead in a typical “Paopa Style” and conducted the elections. This is not an election and it’s not credible. I would challenge the process like I did before. I would test the process and I would go to CAS to challenge the entire electioneering process because I believe that what we had here is not a congress, it’s a coronation,” she stated.

She added: “First of all I was removed from the race with an ethical issue which was a non-issue. Through CAS, two days ago I was reinstated in the race and I came to contest a fair election. But what happened today is unacceptable. If there is no president to call the election to order — the very person responsible for ensuring the process runs properly — then what do you call that? That is not an election.”

Aminata Bangura stressed that she entered football to “bring light into what has become a dark sport,” adding that she would continue to scrutinize the process.

“The constitution is not clear, and I will keep tracing the process. Football is supposed to be a fair and just game — not an avenue for the party in power to secure positions by hook or by crook. We will test this process,” she vowed.

Meanwhile, the President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Dr. Patrice Motsepe, has extended his warm congratulations to Babadi Kamara following his recent election as President of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA). And According to the SLFA’s Media Department the former President, Thomas Daddy Brima has congratulated Babadi Kamara.
