AS PARAMOUNT CHIEFTAINCY ELECTION PETITIONED… TENSION IN IMPERI CHIEFDOM

The Paramount Chieftaincy Election in Imperi Chiefdom, Bonthe District, held on the 2nd of May 2026 has reportedly been petitioned on allegations that it was marred by intimidation, violence, elections irregularities and fraud.

According to sources, the formal petition which has been filed at the High Court Registry has already been served on five respondents, including the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, the Chief Electoral Commissioner, the Provincial Secretary South and the District Officer of Bonthe District.

The petitioner is Alfred Solomon, son of the late wife of Sierra Leone’s first Prime Minister, Dr. Milton A.S. Margai, Paramount Chief (P.C.) Hawa Sonkohun IV of Imperi Chiefdom who died recently.

The petition, dated 8th May 2026, contains twenty-four paragraphs of irregularities and particulars and was filed in accordance with the Chieftaincy Act of 2009.
