At UK 2020 Summit… No Deal for Sierra Leone

The just concluded UK –Africa 2020 Summit has ended with no dice for Sierra Leone.
The summit which was hosted by the British Prime Minister on 20th January, 2020 in the UK saw the announcement of a total of over 27 commercial deals worth over £6.5bn from across the African markets.
Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio has led a high powered delegation to the summit to woo UK Investors to what he described as the new found investment destination.
He spoke on the aspirations and commitment of his government in meeting the SDG Goals especially around the areas of Peace and Education.
The UK forum provided a platform for the Government of President Bio to present its economic agenda across a number of key sectors, alongside representatives of the private sector that are operating in the Sierra Leonean market and also offered their experience and insight to the assembled audience.
The UK says trade between them and Africa amounts to over £36 billion and this according to them shows that they are building a secure lasting commercial partnership of mutual benefit.
The most notable deals announced at the meeting had included £80m contracts for energy provision in Cote D’Ivoire, BHM £80.3m export and investment of deep –sea equipment systems for Ghana and many other lucrative deals across various African markets to the tune of £6.5bn.
