THE ALSO-RANS DEBATE

Truth be told, there was actually no need for a debate of the rest of the political parties that failed to meet the minimum threshold. That was stretching democracy too far. The fact is that at the SLBC as at now there is no real head. Everyone can just spring up a suggestion and it is acceptable whether expedient or not.

The fact that they did not attract large numbers means that their messages were not resonating with the public in a positive way. So what was the need to waste at least two useful hours on the unimaginative SLBC? Some of those so-called flag bearers spewed lots of gibberish not excluding bad grammar. When you hear a prospective presidential candidate saying “When I become President I will “onboard,” you begin to wonder about his quality of education. He also says “I will able,” etc.

That wasted time of two hours could have been better used to get the six parties that are likely to win to elaborate more on their manifestos. Alternatively, that time should have been used to design peace messages on the SLBC.

Aside from the forced entertainment it offered, the real loser is the APC government. But you cannot blame the mediocres. They are pitch-forked into places by the A.P.C. It was a session of bashing the government – a vicarious service. Next would be a debate by the independent candidates.

APC or SLPP: WHO IS LYING?

Over the incident at Kamalo the blame game has been played and now it is time for penalty kicks.

The APC Presidential team visited the whole of the south that is obviously the SLPP stronghold without any ugly incidents. What should we conclude when trouble sparks up on the visit of the SLPP Presidential team to the home of the APC Presidential candidate?

If the SLPP campaign team were singing provocative songs they should bear part of the blame for the fracas. What were they really trying to achieve? Were they trying to prove that Dr. Samura Kamara would lose the election in his own home town? They must have been dreaming.

BODY OF CHRIST MISSION

The Muslims have been most impressive in their peace moves. Every Friday they have at least one hour on the SLBC which they have lately devoted entirely to discussions on peace. One would have expected the Christians, led by the Body of Christ, to lead on this issue but they are not so minded. They prefer to be non-committal by relying on prayers only which the Muslims are also doing simultaneously with their peace messages.

The Body of Christ has not been known to intervene in controversial issues which breed the suspicion that they are biased in favour of the ruling party. This should not be the case with a Body that is expected to be like a neutral referee.

This brings us to the intractable problem of the movement or non-movement of vehicles on the day of election. They know that this would be a flash-point issue on Election Day if not resolved but because of their bias in favour of the government they wouldn’t offer their mediation services. Bravo to the Muslims

BEWARE OF PEST CONTROL

These days it is not easy to distinguish between false and genuine goods and services. And talking about fake services, one organization that is patently fake is the National Pest Control Organization (Napco). It is situated at 48 Berwick Street, Freetown and 46 Main Sewa Road Bo. Its Executive Director is David M. Kallon and the Program Manager is Jonathan I. Collier.

Their workmen wearing face masks are most perfunctory.

Beware of them!
