Diamond Stars Lures Sons and Daughters of Kono For Support

The current team manager of the Kono based premier league team, Diamond Stars, who also doubles as defending champions of the Sierra Leone Premier league and its newly established fan club, have called on the sons and daughters of Kono from across the political divide and all works of life to support the team, which has fully registered to defend this year’s 2019 Premier League crown.
The current management, as a way of supporting the team, will launch the supporter’s jersey at the Atlantic Hall, National Stadium, on Wednesday the 29 January,2019. The event is expected to serve as a fund raising event for the team, which will have its opening match away to another eastern team, the Kamboi Eagles of Kenema, in eastern Sierra Leone.
The management has written letters soliciting support for the team and individuals. Those who have already been extended letters to include the country’s First Lady –Fatima Bio, the Honourable Vice President –Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, former Vice President, Chief Alhaji Sam Sumana, former First and Second Ladies, Mrs. Nyama Koroma and Mrs. Sam Sumana, Mrs I.J. Kabbah and BBC stringer, Umaru Fofanah, amongst others.
Diamond Stars was established in 1954 by diamond miners, businessmen and football loving fans. The team, since joining the Sierra Leone Premier League, has never relegated and continues to enjoy the 5 top slots while also enjoying a huge fan base across the country. Diamond Stars remains the only provincial team to have won the Sierra Leone Premier League two consecutive times. It is owned by various tribes from Kono District.
It will be recalled that the resumption of this year’s Premier League has brought some consciousness within and among people hailing from districts that have teams in the Premier League and everything is now been done financially and morally to support these teams in the league.
