Electoral Justice: $2.5 Bn for ECOMOG Deployment in Sierra Leone

Must read

A giant step has been taken by the international community through ECOWAS for the full implementation of key electoral justice recommendations in Sierra Leone.

The Economic Community of West African States ECOWAS is the body directly responsible for supervising and monitoring the full implementation of the final recommendations of the Tripartite Committee. ECOWAS is taking instructions directly from the United Nations Security UNSC to put into practice the final recommendations which are implementable and actionable in accordance with the Tripartite Committee signatories.

To achieve this historic project and the actual realization of Electoral Justice for the electorates in Sierra Leone, the project needs a huge amount of money for it to succeed. Recently, ECOWAS made a budget amounting to the colossal sum of 2.5 billion United States dollars. Today, global partners contributing to raise the amount have completed their work. As we go to press, competent sources say the money is in ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development.

Besides the completion of the US$2.5 billion funds to finance ECOMOG troops, what remains now is the completion of the contributing countries to contribute their quotas to make up the 5,000 strong military personnel, otherwise known as ECOMOG troops. Sources in Abuja, the ECOWAS headquarters say the nations required to contribute soldiers have almost complete. After this process, the deployment of the troops will take place. Sierra Leoneans, yearning for constitutional rule, will very soon see the deployment of ECOMOG troops which will apparently commence the full actionable implementation of the Tripartite Committee recommendations. Especially, the Electoral Justice which has been recently endorsed by the Security Council in New York. The Report presented to the UN came from the Australian former legislator Kate Sullivan, who was the head of the Tripartite Secretariat.

Kate Sullivan’s Report is also similar to the UN Co-Chair on the Tripartite Committee representing development partners Madam Seraphine Wakana of Burundi, who is also the United Nations Resident Representative to Sierra Leone. Their Reports clearly spelt out the final outcome of the Tripartite which shows that incumbent President Julius Maada Bio did not win the June 24, 2023 elections. Evidence produced by the main opposition APC party shows that its leader Dr Samura Kamara won the June elections by netting 57.15%.

Abuja sources have confirmed that the full amount has been collected from the various countries and institutions around the world. Reports say the European Union recently visited Abuja to complete its own contributions for the ECOMOG funds. The ECOMOG deployment will be done soon in order to facilitate the immediate implementation of Electoral Justice and the Electoral Reforms. Sources say, the next government i.e. Dr Samura Kamara’s, will implement the full recommendations.

The quest for Electoral Justice in Sierra Leone is moving from strength to strength thanks to the tireless efforts of the European Union representative and others. EU Ambassador Manuel Müller is standing tall to prop up Electoral Justice after completing US2.5 billion payments for the ECOMOG. Propping up the Electoral Justice campaign is the primary focus for all patriotic Sierra Leoneans especially the APC Grassroots supporters whose votes were publicly stolen by incumbent Maada Bio and his crook chairman of the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone ECSL Mohamed Konneh.

The suffering people of Sierra Leone should be thankful to the Chief EU representative to Sierra Leone Ambassador Manuel Müller, a true friend of the country. Had it not been for the persistent intervention of Mr Manuel Müller, the restoration of democratic rule in Sierra Leone would have been a prolonged difficulty. The Chief Representative of the European Union to Sierra Leone Manuel Müller should be thanked. No surprise that the EU boss in Sierra Leone is standing firm by the people, the suffering majority, to make sure Electoral Justice become a reality.

And indeed, the voters who voted massively on June 24, 2023 elections will soon see their Electoral mandate practicalities because of the EU boss Manuel Müller and others. Last week, Mr. Müller reportedly flew to Abuja, the headquarters, to make the final installment of the money to finance the 5,000 ECOMOG soldiers slated to arrive soon to Sierra Leone. This latest development means that the full implementation of the Tripartite Committee recommendations including both Electoral Reforms and Electoral Justice will take place very soon.

Invariably, constitutional rule would be restored, meaning the APC leader Dr. Samura Kamara, who evidently won the June 24, 2023 general election, will be inaugurated as President without delay. Thanks immensely to the European Union and others for paying its own contributions to the ECOMOG funding. As for the doubting Thomases and the ‘done and dusted’ traitorous APC executives – in connivance with the electoral thieves in Maada Bio’s SLPP regime – will get the shock of their lives very soon when democratic rule is restored.

Tripartite is clearly above everyone and even the APC party or the SLPP party or Maada Bio or Dr Samura Kamara could stop Tripartite because it is democracy that is stake here. International Treaty is above all national legislations. The United Nations Security Council, through ECOWAS is determined to see constitutional rule return to the West African sub-region especially in Sierra Leone, Guinea Bissau, Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso. And Sierra Leone is a test case to set a good precedent to the rest.

It’s kudos to Manuel Müller and others for being steadfast in defending democratic governance. Resolution Three of the Tripartite (set up to probe the June 24, 2023 elections) says whatever comes out of it is implementable and actionable. The two baskets i.e. Reforms and Accountability will be implemented in full. Reports have also intimated that the bulk of the 2.5 billion US dollars for ECOMOG forces was contributed by the UN Security Council, European Union, ECOWAS, African Union, Commonwealth, USA, UK, and others.
