Embattled Drivers Union President Ignores High Court Order

Must read

By Ralph Sesay
The embattled Drivers Union President, Alpha Bah, has continued to downplay the High Court ruling of April, 10th 2019, which requires him to provide the financial statements for 2016, 2017 and up to December 10th 2018 to the National Executive Council or the Central Executive Committee of the Motor Drivers and General Transport Workers Union.
Ansumana Gobeh, ther defunct Secretary General of the Motor Drivers and General Transport Workers Union, has told SLBC’s Morning Coffee that the embattled President has failed to go by the High Court ruling to provide the general membership with the financial statements for the years under review.
He continued that Mr. Alpha Bah has claimed, in several radio programs in Freetown, that he has presented the said financial report to the Central Executive Committee of the Motor Drivers and General Transport Workers Union.
It will be recalled that Alpha Bah, the embattled President of the Motor Drivers Union, together with his Treasurer and Vice President, stand indicted on allegations of corruption and misappropriation of millions of leones at the High Court of Sierra Leone, which is presided over by Justice Fynn.
The indicted President, who was supposed to step aside prior to the ruling of the court, has since been meddling into the affairs of the Union and also presiding over the collection of millions of leones at various lorry parks in Freetown and other provincial areas in the country.
Mr. Alpha Bah has refused to present the financial report of the Union as well as stay put on the activities of the Union as provided for law since his indictment and subsequent appearance before the High Court.
The membership of the Union has accused the Ministry of Labour of siding with Alpha Bah and also failing to execute orders of the Anti-Corruption Commission to set aside the Alpha Bah executive.
He was accused of having written a letter requesting the Sierra Leone Police to provide security for the defunct President and his executive to conduct fresh elections even when he remains indicted at the High Court for corruption allegations.
Mr. Alpha Bah is again refusing to follow the High Court ruling of 10th April,2019, which requires him to present financial report to the National Executive Council and the Central Executive Committee for 2016, 2017 and up to December 10th 2018.
Responding, Mr. Alpha Bah noted that he is just from the provinces campaigning for the next elections. He stated that he had presented the financial statement of the Union for 2016, 2017 and 2018 as directed by the High Court of Sierra Leone.
He could not explain why he is still meddling into the activities of the Motor Drivers and General Transport Workers Union when he remains indicted by the High Court of Sierra Leone.
The general membership of the Motor Drivers and General Transport Workers Union has expressed their dissatisfaction over the neutrality of the Ministry of Labour to peacefully mediate and bring peace to the Union. The Ministry has been accused of siding with the Alpha Bah executive, which still continues to meddle into the financial activities of the Union even when they remain indicted at the High Court of Sierra Leone for corruption related offences.
