After securing victory in back-to-back victory against Mozambique and Eswatini in the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Division 2 Africa Qualifier in Gaborone, the Sierra Leone Senior Women’s Cricket Team are gearing up for third straight winning against host Botswana today, Wednesday July 23.
On opening day, the Ladies tamed the lame antics of Mozambique with a bossy 77-run winner, a sumptuous drill for the Eswatini affair.
Elected to bowl after winning the toss on Monday, the Liswatis leapt short of any viable aim. The Patriotic Sierra Leonean Ladies roved in for the ride, welcoming the choice of their foreign friends with the zest nurtured on match day 1.
Then, the flames got fanned by Sierra Leone’s finest opening order strikers: Emma Kamara smacked 71 off 60 balls, flinging seven 4s for 118.33 strike rate before Skipper Aminata Kamara plunked 18 off 12 balls. Marie Turay came in for 23, pulling 2 fours to see bullish Celina Bull hitting 15 off 12, picking three 4s.
One by one, the Ladies gassed the foreigners off sight, scoring 190 runs for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs.
The reply came at 191. Bruised, daunted, and frail, the foreigners could thump only 41 for eight in 20 overs, giving Sierra Leone a comfortable win of 149 runs as Emma Kamara grabbed Player of the Match award for a spectacular 71-run gain.
Aminata Kamara, the Team Captain said their primary focus is to secure a place in the next stage of a competition so they are well prepared and determine to secure their third victory over the host Botswana.
“We won our games back-to-back and we believe that we have what it takes to defeat our opponent, and that belief has made us even hungrier. As captain, the goal is now even more personal. We want to bring joy to Sierra Leoneans by achieving something truly special in this tournament,” Kamara assured.
