Hawa Bah
Hawa Bah, a Guinean working for KLM and Air France Airlines as a freight forwarder at the Lungi International Airport, has been implicated in corruption relating to the shipment of a consignment of fish that was to be shipped from Sierra Leone to Amsterdam.
Some Sierra Leoneans based in Amsterdam have reportedly been tasked by Hawa Bah to pay the sum of US$ 4,000 for 260 kilograms of fish.
The freight forwarder has reportedly reversed the price to Le8,479,000 after the Sierra Leonean business people resident in Amsterdam have complained to Hawa Bah that the price was too exorbitant for such a consignment.
These Sierra Leoneans have reportedly paid Le4,600,000 to Hawa Bah as the final price for the shipment of the consignment. It remains a balance of Le 3,879,000, which, according to agreements, they were supposed to pay when the consignment arrived safely in its destination in Europe.
Hawa Bah, the Sierra Leonean businessmen continued, had issued receipts which did not bear the amount paid to her for the shipment. Unfortunately the consignment delayed for over two weeks at Amsterdam without getting to the actual recipients. The consignment was returned back to Sierra Leone on the grounds that it had rot.
She never informed the owners of the consignment that it has been returned to Freetown not until when they enquired about the whereabouts of the goods.
“She was very arrogant and never expressed regret over what has happened to us. We ended up in losing millions of leones in purchasing, transportation and storage of the fish. This girl is really wicked and heartless,” one of the businessmen recounted.
“We are calling on the authorities at KLM to investigate the matter, as we have suffered humiliation in the hands of a foreigner in our own country,” others expressed disappointment.
Attempts to get Hawa Bah to respond to the allegations against her have proved futile.
Investigations further revealed that Hawa Bah has a very bad relationship with her colleague workers at the Airport. She has been described as a very arrogant and pompous individual.
