The Alliance Democratic Party (ADP) may likely clinch the seat for Ward 379, Constituency 107 in the Koya rural district Northern Sierra Leone. Abubakar Kamara, who holds the Councillorship symbol in the ward, which comprises areas like Fabiana, Six Mile, Songo, Four Mile and its environs, is an icon in the area.
Okocha, a popular okada rider in the area, informed Nightwatch that Mr. Kamara is the popular choice of the youths, old women and girls in the ward.
According to Okocha, it is they the people that asked Abubakar to contest in whatever political party and that their votes will surely go for him. Okocha concluded by saying most of them are APC supporters, but are tired of seeing the party imposing candidates on them they did not favour. “The choice of Alima Kamara to stand for councilor in our area, where she did not live before, is against our wishes and we would not vote the APC for that reason,‘’Okocha concluded .
Asked about his advantage over other candidates in the NGC, APC and SLPP, who are the front runners in the race for the seat, Mr. Abubakar stated that he has engaged in several Agricultural projects and sports in the recent past, which has greatly benefitted the youths in the ward.
He recounted several Agricultural projects, such as the Labour Intensive Public Works programme (LIPW) through NACSA, which he successfully got and implemented in the area benefitting youths and widows, etc.
The ADP candidate stated that he owns a football team renamed Yambaloyah football team in honour of a hero in the Community. “I am coming up for the seat to continue to work for my people as for far too long Four Mile and Waterloo have been providing candidates to our council who we do countenance in the area, Mr. Abubakar Kamara concluded.
It could be recalled that this area has been dominated by the APC for far too long, with the likes of Hassan Gbessay Kanu and now Claude D.M. Kamanda, former Member of Parliament and Chief Whip for the Sierra Leone Parliament.
The ADP candidate is running against a very unknown female candidate among the youths in Six Mile and other areas in the ward from the incumbent, who is expected to give her a run for her money in the March 7th polls.
