Man Incarcerated For Stealing

Steven Turay has made his first appearance before Magistrate Alhaji Suliaman Koroma, of the Ross Road Magistrate Court No.1, for allegedly stealing one thousand cement bricks, which are valued at twelve million Leones (Le12,000,000), properties belonging to the complainant, Mohamed Sankoh.

The incident took place on Saturday 21st November, 2020, at No. 23 Africanus Road, Kissy in Freetown. The police prosecution witness, Mohamed Sankoh, who is a building contractor, in his testimony, told the court that he recognized the accused and could recall 21st November 2020.

On that fateful day, he was at home when he received a telephone call from one of his friends, who gave him information that he saw the accused loading his bricks from his construction site at No. 23 Africanus Road, Kissy.

“Upon receiving the information, I immediately left for No. 23 Africanus Road,” Mr. Sankoh told the court. The witness detailed the court that, upon his arrival, he saw the accused loading the bricks in question; adding that “I got him arrested with the help of one Mr. Alie. We took him to the Ross Road Police Division in Freetown, where I made a statement in respect of the matter.”

“There are five thousand bricks in my construction site, and the accused stole one hundred thousand cement bricks,” the witness informed the court.

According to the police charge sheet, Steven Turay, on Saturday 21st November, 2020, at No 23 Africanus Road, Kissy in Freetown, stole one thousand cement bricks, which are valued at twelve million Leones (Le12,000,000), properties belonging to the complainant.

The accused was denied bail and sent on remand at the Male Correctional Pademba Road in Freetown. The matter was adjourned to 10th December, 2020.
