Mother remanded for alleged murder

Tenneh Bangura, mother of a deceased child, has been remanded at the Female Correctional Centre at New England in Freetown for allegedly murdering her daughter, Sia Sitta kamara.
Magistrate Shar Kekura of Pa Demba Road court is conducting Preliminary investigation into the matter. The alleged matter would be committed to High Court if sufficient evidence is found against the accused.
It was alleged by the police that the accused willfully dive her two-year old in a river at Hamilton Beach, West of Freetown.
The accused is represented by Claudius Campbell. In his cross-examination during the proceedings, detective sergeant 11208 Hawa Bangura attached to the criminal investigation department Adonkia police station told the court she was on duty when the accused was arrested and brought in. She further testified that she obtained voluntary caution statements from the accused who initially denied the allegation. The police detective further testified that, during the investigation, the accused had told the police that she was crossing the river when the child accidentally fell therein from her back. “Initially, the accused denied the allegation, but later made confessional statements during the course of the investigation,” the police witness said.
The police charge sheet indicated, the accused on Wednesday 30th October, 2019 at Portor Mambo village, Goderich in Freetown judicial district, in the Western Area of the Republic of Sierra Leone murdered Sia Sita Kamara, a child aged 2yrs.
The accused person was denied bail and the matter was adjourned to the 21st January this year.
