The National Olympic Committee and Commonwealth Games Association of Sierra Leone (NOC/CGA-SL) will host the TAFISA Certified Leadership Training – Level 1 from July 8 to 11, 2026, at the OlympAfrica Centre in Goderich, Freetown, as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen leadership and governance within the country’s sports sector.
The four-day training programme is designed to equip sports administrators, executives and emerging leaders with the knowledge, practical skills and leadership competencies required to effectively manage sports organizations and promote sustainable development across Sierra Leone’s sporting landscape.
The TAFISA Certified Leadership Programme is a globally recognized two-level training initiative aimed at developing capable and visionary leaders within the international sports movement. Level 1 serves as the foundation course, introducing participants to key principles of leadership, governance, strategic planning, communication, team management and organizational development.
Organized by the NOC/CGA-SLE, the programme seeks to build the institutional capacity of National Sports Associations by preparing administrators to lead with professionalism, integrity and accountability. The training also places strong emphasis on good governance, effective decision-making and strategic leadership, all of which are essential to the continued growth and success of sport in Sierra Leone.
Throughout the course, participants will engage in practical learning sessions designed to strengthen their leadership abilities, improve communication and teamwork, enhance organizational management skills, and develop strategies for achieving long-term institutional goals. The programme will also encourage participants to adopt internationally recognized governance standards and best practices in sports administration.
According to the NOC/CGA-SLE, investing in leadership development is critical to building resilient and well-managed sports organizations capable of delivering quality programmes, supporting athletes and attracting greater stakeholder confidence.
Participants who successfully complete the Level 1 certification will become eligible to advance to the TAFISA Certified Leadership Training – Level 2, which focuses on advanced leadership competencies, organizational transformation and strategic institutional development.
The initiative reflects the NOC/CGA-SLE’s commitment to developing a new generation of competent sports leaders capable of driving innovation, strengthening governance and advancing the Olympic values of excellence, friendship and respect throughout Sierra Leone’s sporting community.
By partnering with TAFISA to deliver internationally accredited leadership training, the NOC/CGA-SL continues to demonstrate its determination to professionalize sports administration and empower administrators with the skills needed to lead their organizations effectively in an increasingly dynamic global sporting environment.
