Orange SL Launches ‘My Orange’ APP

A new hope for Orange Sierra Leone (OSL) customers is here following the launch of ‘My Orange’ a new app by the company. OSL is a leading company in the country’s telecoms industry.

The new service which has offered the company another lead in the communication industry is first of its kind in Sierra Leone.

 The strapline, ‘everything made easy’ sends a message that customers are now free from many procedures to access OSL services. The new app is multi-service since customers can access all OSL services at a go with the click of a button.

‘My Orange’ app being the first version works in android phones for now, but it is expected to work in other phones in the near future. The steps to get the new app were explained by an OSL staff who referred to it as a one-spot shop.

The launching ceremony took place yesterday at OSL headquaters in Freetown attended by Orange staff, journalists and members of the public.

 Joseph Momoh explained steps one could take to access the service. The first step, he said, was to go to Goggle play store and look for  ‘My Orange’ adding that it comes up when one search for it.

 Momoh said at this stage, the customer could click ‘download’ to get the new app in the phone. “It is a user-friendly app that brings all services that Orange provides,” he said.

With the possession, of an android phone, he went on, the app could be used for credit transfers, send and receive money via Orange money as well as other services. He assured customers that the service would be sustained as it is government’s flagship project for now.

Head of marketing at OSL, Felix Macauley, reiterated that the ‘My Orange’ app is a one-spot-shop. He said it helped users access all Orange services with just one click. Macauley went on to state that his institution launched the digital transformation last year to bridge the digital divide in the country.

Speaking at the ceremony, President for OSL women, Martha Sumaila says her institution has always led the way in the digitalisation of Sierra Leone.

 “The new service is the first in the market, and it is a great thing for the company,” Sumaila informed the audience. She also paid attention to the comprehensive nature of the service as all Orange services could be accessed by customers at a go.

 The OSL President also went to explain the importance of the new service to women saying that “shopping go side-by-side with women,” and that the orange app would help women achieve their dreams.

 The service, she went on, was not only important to women at OSL but also to women outside there.

“ With the new app, one can buy top-up credit, send money via orange money service, wherever you are and whoever you are as long as you have a smart phone,” Sumaila told the audience.  The launch of the new service is one in a stream of latest activities of the company’s pursuit of digitalisation. Few months ago, OSL established digital links with commercial banks to ease monetary transactions of OSL customers.  ‘From the Bank to the Wallet and from the Wallet to the Bank’ is a key digital strategy that has produced good results in the banking and telecoms industries.

It was a move of financial inclusion. The company has also similarly built strong partnerships with local councils across the country for digital collection of taxes. The councils hope to expand its revenue base once it partners with OSL.

OSL, councils’ officials say is a real and reliable partner. OSL will not relent in its pursuit of digital policies to make it easy for customers.
