Four men have been remanded at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown after appearing before Principal Magistrate Mustapha Brima Jah at Pademba Road Court No. 1 on three counts relating to alleged grievous bodily harm.
The accused are 35-year-old businessman Ishmael Turay, 38-year-old bar attendant David Turay, 32-year-old electrician Ibrahim Paul Sangoh, and 32-year-old Mohamed Mohamed Kamara.
They are facing three counts: Causing Grievous Bodily Harm with Intent, contrary to Section 18 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861; Wounding, contrary to Section 20 of the same Act; and Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm, contrary to Section 47 of the Act.
According to the particulars of the first count, on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at No. 2 River Community, off Peninsular Road, Western Area, Freetown, the accused allegedly unlawfully and maliciously caused grievous bodily harm to Joseph Kamara, with intent to do him grievous bodily harm.
Count two alleges that on the same date and at the same location, the accused unlawfully and maliciously wounded Joseph Kamara.
The third count alleges that the accused assaulted Joseph Kamara, thereby occasioning him actual bodily harm.
When the charges were read and explained to the accused, no plea was taken, as the matter is before the court for committal proceedings.
The prosecution, represented by Assistant Commissioner of Police Juan M.S. Bull, informed the court that copies of the case file and inquiry file had been served on defence counsel.
Defence counsel A.O. Gbla confirmed receipt of the documents and applied for bail on behalf of all four accused pursuant to Section 76(1)(c) of the Criminal Procedure Act 2024.
However, Magistrate Jah refused the bail application, citing the seriousness of the offences before the court.
The matter was adjourned to September 23, 2026, for further proceedings.
