A release from the United States Embassy in Freetown has revealed over the weekend that Baltimore–based band Nelly Echo is set to visit Sierra Leone in the first week of March, 2020.
The visit, the US said, was sponsored by the Embassy through the US State Department as part of a cultural exchange program.
Nelly Echo, the release adds, was selected through American artists and global audiences.
According to the release, the band is currently touring the West African country of Cameroon and will be heading to Sierra Leone next.
‘’In Sierra Leone ,the band will work in collaboration with the Public Affairs Section of the US Embassy and Ballanta Academy of Music, to train 20 young people in music composition and performance. There will be a music performance for the public on Friday March, 6,” the release stated.
The band’s captivating storytelling and high energy performances, according to the US release, have made them a sought-after across the United States and Overseas.
The coming of the band to Sierra Leone, according to Robert Revere of the Public Affairs, will be a unique opportunity for young, aspiring musicians in the country to experience and interact with American musicians.
