Sierra Leone Wins 2nd Baku Gym For All International Challenge

After securing gold medals in the opening day, Sierra Leone received the award as ‘The Best Performance’ in a gala show of the 2nd Baku Gym For All International Challenge which took place on Baku Seaside Boulevard (behind the building of the Azerbaijan State Puppet Theater) on Sunday June 2.

The event was attended by the Minister of Youth and Sports of Azerbaijan, Farid Gaibov, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Mariana Vasileva, representatives of the sports community, and foreign guests including the Sierra Leone National Sports Authority’s Director-Victor Hasting Spaine, Anna Williams, the President of the Sierra Leone Gymnastics Federation.

Before the start of the gala show, an awards ceremony took place. In the Best Performance category, the winners were teams representing Sierra Leone and Georgia (Acro Family); Best Costume – Team Mongolia; The most active user of social networks – Aigul Babasheva; The most active parents – parents of team members representing the Olympic sports complexes in Gabala and Oguz; The oldest participant – Valida Hasanova (The Youth of the 70’s team); The youngest participant is Aziza Nuri (team “Madagascar”). The winners in these nominations were awarded diplomas and awards.

Then, a gala show where 25 teams presented bright, dynamic, fascinating programmes, with the entire Baku Seaside Boulevard shouting at the top of their voices, Sierra Leone!

Sharing their impressions, the participants of the 2nd Baku Gym For All International Challenge noted that there was a wonderful atmosphere at the event.

‘I am extremely proud of the team, staff, and all the coaches for giving their heart and soul to this competition. We came out with a strong effort against a really good gymnastics groups and were able to accomplish what we came here to do, which was win the gold medal for the country. This group of minors and young people is an indication of a bright future for Sierra Leone Gymnastics,’ The SLGA President noted.

She applauded the new NSA Chief, Dr. Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai, for having confidence in them and providing the funding. ‘I want thank the new NSA boss, Dr. Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai, for believing in us and also extend my gratitude to the Government and the Minister of Sports, Madam Augusta James-Taema,’ Williams affirmed.
