An anonymous source has disclosed to Nightwatch Newspaper that the Sierra Leone Ports and Harbours Authority (SLPHA) is being used as a transshipment point for the importation and exportation of illicit drugs.
The source further alleged that a drug cartel is operating within the port and warned that, unless the alleged network is dismantled, the port could continue to serve as a route for drug trafficking in Sierra Leone and the wider West African region.
According to the source, four containers allegedly containing tramadol were intercepted at the SLPHA in June 2026, with the matter reportedly brought to the attention of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and other security agencies.
The source claimed the containers were subsequently destroyed. However, Nightwatch Newspaper, as it stands there is no publicly available evidence has so far been identified to confirm it.
The source also claimed that drugs have previously been imported and exported through the port, and that photographs, documents and other evidence exist to support the allegations.
Nightwatch Newspaper is in possession of photographs and other necessary evidence which may shed further light on the alleged movement of drugs through the port and the circumstances surrounding the four containers.
