Voice of Teachers Bows To SLTU

Must read

The Voice of teachers, a splinter teacher group that was purportedly formed to agitate on behalf of teachers’ welfare, has bowed to the legally constituted and recognized parent body for teachers in the country, the Sierra Leone Teachers Union.
The two groups have, on Thursday the 17th January, 2019, signed a joint communique to work together around the welfare of teachers in the country.
The Voice of Teachers have accused the Sierra Leone Teachers Union of not speaking to the issue of teachers’ welfare across the country and also went ahead in declaring a national teachers’ sit down strike early this month.
The move was later countered by the SLTU, which had encouraged the membership to work as they are engaging government on their welfare issues.
The move to get the two teacher groups together, through the efforts of the Labour Congress, was commended by the entire membership.
The formation of the Voice of Teachers is the second after Concerned Teachers was formed years back to criticize and condemn the SLTU for failing to speak around the issues of teachers’ welfare. All the two groups have submerged into the SLTU after series of criticisms against the SLTU.
