KAMARAIMBA’S FALSE PROPHESY

Long before the last elections the leader of the Alliance Democratic Party (ADP) seemed to be one of the politicians to be reckoned with. As the elections drew near his true colors started to appear. His vaunts were that he would never join any of the traditional parties that had been ruling the country since independence and he kept to that decision outwardly.

Just before the run-off, he went on a country –wide tour at the end of which he prophesied that Dr. Samura would win. One wonders what he has been saying about such a deceit.

One curious thing about this unfocussed fellow is that his running mate deserted him before the elections and he had said he was unaware of it until he was told. Can you beat that? That’s a man who said the people should start to call him His Excellency. He promised to remove the toll road, among other things. More than any other party leader he suffered from at least two arson attacks on his office and residence which was ominous. Kamarainba should dissolve his club and join a progressive party. Other wise he is doomed even as a false prophet.

Valentine Strasser

At the time the NPRC marched into Freetown and booted out the corrupt APC Captain Valentine Strasser became the youngest head of state in the world. Owing perhaps to his youthfulness he wanted to prolong the junta’s stay in power. He was also booted out in a palace coup by the incumbent head of state. He has a place in history.

He came back into the limelight during the recent election campaigns. He was asked to clarify the execution by firing of soldiers and others during his regime. The request was by the APC to put the blame on Brigadier Rtd. Maada Bio but the move misfired. To their greatest chagrin he took the blame thereby exonerating Maada Bio.

This confession and clarification certainly helped in its own way to garner some votes for the SLPP. As a result President Bio should reward the retired Captain by way of a job or some other compensation from the state. He could have declined the offer of clarification and the widely accepted rumor that Maada Bio was responsible would have cost him some badly-needed votes.

NO RUBBER STAMP PARLIAMENT

The multi-party composition of the legislature is indeed good for our democracy. This time around we hope MPs will not receive brown envelopes from giant mining companies at the expense of the marginalized communities they represent.

We hope this parliament will not ratify emergency and insufficiently scrutinized bills. So please KKY, Emerson Lamina and other new kids on the block. Watch out!
