The presiding Magistrate of Pademba Road Court No 1, Hannah Bonnie, yesterday ordered for Alhaji Bangura to be remanded at the Male Correctional Center for allegedly attempting to commit suicide.
The charge sheet alleges that, on Thursday 17th June 2020 at Lumley, the accused tied himself with a rope on his neck in an attempt to commit suicide.
In the police file, the wife (Mariatu Bangura) of the accused said, on the date of the incident, the accused came home in a toxic mood, as usual, and told her that he was going to kill himself.
His wife said, whilst talking, the accused went and took a knife and cut a rope they normally use to draw water from the well.
He started saying, “I will hang myself with this knife,” the wife told the court.
During police investigation, the accused confirmed that he planned to kill himself because his wife had complained him to his relatives abroad, adding that his relatives abroad had vowed not to give him any financial assistance again.
However, he was refused bail and remanded until the 10th of July 2020 for the prosecution to take its first witness.
